On Sunday, April 26th, we are hosting the Move for Moms 5K at the Northside Green. This event supports maternal mental health, with funds going toward making counselling more accessible for parents in our community, as well as helping meet practical needs for families who are struggling.
We currently have over 50 participants registered and a strong group of volunteers helping bring the event to life. It’s shaping up to be a really meaningful morning that brings together movement, community, and support for a topic that often goes unseen.
This event also comes at an important time. As we head into Maternal Mental Health Month in May, this 5K is part of a broader effort to build awareness and connection in our community. In the weeks following, Fredericton will also be hosting other meaningful initiatives, including a talk with well-known speaker and influencer Libby Ward, as well as Flora's Walk. Flora’s Walk is an annual event that raises funds and awareness in honour of Flora, a Canadian mother who lost her life during the postpartum period due to mental health challenges. These events together highlight the importance of supporting parents and reducing stigma around postpartum mental health.
