FIDDLE PARTY: A fiddly fundraising concert in support of Merry Time Music’s scholarship fund takes place Friday, March 27, 2026 at 7:30 PM at the Sanctuary Arts Centre (100 Ochterloney Street). Hosted by Halifax-based fiddle player and educator Adrianna Ciccone, the evening will celebrate fiddle traditions from across the globe in a lively, kitchen-party atmosphere. Audiences can expect fiddle tunes from all over the world: from Irish jigs and Cape Breton reels to Appalachian string band tunes, Scandinavian polskas, and percussive dance - all guaranteed to get toes tapping.
Adrianna, raised in the Ottawa Valley fiddle tradition and inspired by Québécois styles, is a Berklee College of Music graduate whose debut album earned Instrumental Artist of the Year at the Canadian Folk Music Awards. Her 2025 release “The Pear Tree” with Ellen Gibling was nominated for a Music Nova Scotia award. She has won the Maritime Fiddle Festival’s Championship class, and placed fifth in the Canadian Grand Masters fiddling championship in Whitehorse, Yukon.
Now based in Kjipuktuk / Halifax, Adrianna runs Merry Time Music Co. along with her sister, Catarina. She also teaches over 100 students weekly through Halifax Regional Art’s fiddle program on the Eastern Shore. In this concert she’ll be joined by some of Nova Scotia’s finest traditional musicians: Ellen Gibling (celtic harp), Dane George (mandolin and percussive dance), Danny Simmons (banjo), Kathleen Law (fiddle), Adam Pye (upright bass), Japhy Sullivan (fiddle) and Kyle Charron (fiddle) with more guests to be announced soon.
Tickets are $35 for adults, and free* for children who play fiddle/violin (*one free young fiddler ticket per adult ticket purchase; children must be accompanied by an adult). Proceeds support Merry Time Music’s Scholarship Fund, helping ensure every child has the opportunity to attend summer music camp at least once in their life.

Nova Sinfonia Orchestra performs classics on May 4 at 7:30 pm at St. Andrew’s United Church, 6036 Coburg Road.
Join Nova Sinfonia for an evening of dramatic orchestral music and brilliant vocal artistry as the orchestra continues its 30th Anniversary Season. Under the direction of Greg Burton, the program welcomes acclaimed soprano Brittany Cann for a selection of powerful operatic arias by Mozart and Beethoven.
The concert opens with Mozart’s Symphony No. 24 in B-flat major, K.182, a vibrant early work full of elegance and youthful energy. Brittany Cann then takes the stage for Beethoven’s thrilling “Abscheulicher!… O komm, Hoffnung”from Fidelio, followed by two beloved Mozart arias: Donna Anna’s dramatic “Non mi dir, bell’idol mio” from Don Giovanni and the Countess’s deeply expressive “Porgi, amor” from Le nozze di Figaro.
The orchestra will also perform Frederick Delius’s Two Pieces for Small Orchestra, music of shimmering colour and lyrical beauty, before concluding the evening with Beethoven’s Symphony No. 1 in C major, Op. 21, a work that marks the bold arrival of Beethoven’s symphonic voice.
